Copper Slag

Building a Stronger Future

Copper Slag

Copper slag is a by-product of copper extraction by smelting process. It is a granular material that is typically dark grey in color and has a similar texture to river sand.

Applications of
Copper slag:

Copper slag can be used as a construction material to manufacture bricks, blocks, and other building materials. It is also used as a lightweight aggregate in concrete and as a replacement for river sand.

Copper slag is a popular blasting abrasive due to its high hardness and angular shape. It is used in the cleaning and preparation of metal surfaces, as well as for the removal of rust, paint, and other coatings.

Due to its chemical and mineralogical characteristics, copper slag can be used as partial substitute for silica and hematite in raw mixes to manufacture Cement. The benefits of such a substitution include lower production costs and energy savings. Based on the study conducted by National Council for Cement and Building Materials (“NCCBM”), up to 5% of copper slag in OPC can be utilized.

Advantages of
using Copper slag:

Copper slag is a durable material that can withstand heavy and extreme weather conditions, making it an excellent choice for construction and infrastructure projects.

Copper slag is readily available and is relatively inexpensive compared to other additives use for cement manufacturing. So overall, the use of copper slag can offer cost saving and other benefits, making it an alternative option for cement and concrete producers.
